Although focusing on your social media is an essential aspect of marketing, it can be time-consuming and stressful, especially if you have an active social media following or a popular business. Here are a few tips on how to make your relationship with social media healthier.

Set A Social Media Time

We’ve talked about the importance of setting a schedule in a previous blog. To have a healthy relationship with social media, the most important rule to set for yourself is to only check social media during certain hours.

Being constantly plugged into social media (or anything really) is bound to be unhealthy. Checking social media only during set hours will allow yourself to build a barrier between your personal life and your business. Allow yourself time away from social media, so you can enjoy your life and focus on the other important aspects of your business.

Responsibly Handle Negative Comments

On social media, it’s easy to get caught up with all the hate. If you receive any negative comments on social media, the number one rule is to not take it personally. Typically, negative commenters on social media don’t know you in real life, so they may be overly harsh in their comments on your social feed. It can be hard when someone is attacking your pride or your passion, but it’s not worth the potential backlash of fighting back.

Instead, take a breather before responding. Put on your customer service cap and try to resolve the issue if possible. If it’s someone simply spamming your comments section, then simply don’t engage with them. The way a business handles negative comments shows a lot about their professionalism.

As someone once said, going on social media is like going to a high school reunion, but all the time. People and businesses always display the best versions of themselves on social media, so it’s easy to be envious of others on the platform.

Whenever you feel envious of a social media post, turn it into admiration and see it as a chance for inspiration. Maybe you can make a similar post on your own social media feed.

Post Later, Not During

Have you ever been to a concert where people pay more attention to their phones than to the actual musicians? Don’t do that. Unless you’re trying to live stream an event, allow yourself to enjoy the moment, then post about it on your social media profile afterward. You’ll notice that you’ll appreciate events so much more when you aren’t trying to record everything with your phone.
